What we did

  • UX audit
  • User flows
  • Dashboard and navigation redesign
  • Interactive prototype
  • Design system

The problem

The product displayed everything it could measure. Customers logged in, looked at a wall of metrics and asked support what they should be looking at.

The engineering team was capable and busy; what was missing was a decision about what the screen was for.

A wall of overstuffed filing cabinets, binders and pinned-up spreadsheets

What was in the way

  • The dashboard answered no specific question.
  • Navigation grouped features by internal architecture, not by user task.
  • New accounts landed on empty states with no path forward.
  • Support answered the same orientation questions repeatedly.

What we designed

We interviewed users and identified the three recurring decisions the product is used to make.

The dashboard was restructured around those decisions, with detail available one level down instead of all at once.

An interactive prototype let the team test the new structure before development began.

What we built

  • A redesigned dashboard, navigation model and onboarding sequence.
  • Purposeful empty states that give a new account a first action.
  • A documented design system the engineering team builds against.

How it works now

Every metric, equally weighted.

The decision first, detail on request.

Navigation by internal structure.

Navigation by user task.

Empty dashboard on day one.

A guided first action.

The outcome

  • Support reported a noticeable drop in orientation questions from new accounts.
  • The engineering team stopped inventing UX decisions mid-sprint.
  • Product conversations shifted from “what can we show” to “what should this screen do”.
